Dear (FRIEND),
I am writing today to share some important information about the 2010 Census and ask for your help to spread the word about how important it is for everyone to be counted.
For each resident missed in the 2010 Census, California is expected to lose more than $11,400 over the next 10 years. The stakes are extremely high; for example, if 10 percent of California’s population of 37 million was not counted, the state would stand to lose $42.4 billion over the next decade. An undercount means that fewer federal dollars will be available for programs that serve working families. Federal programs that use census data in their funding formulas for states and localities range from community heath clinics and education funds to unemployment insurance.
This is why it is important for all of us to help Los Angeles County get its fair share of federal funding by taking part in the 2010 Census.
As a leader in your community, you can:
- Talk your local PTA or other organizations with large memberships
- Discuss the importance of the census at your local city council meeting (use these key messages)
- Share this information with the board on which you serve
- Give to CCF’s 2010 Census Initiative
Ensuring that everyone is counted will help us secure funding for the services we need to support our community. The census benefits all of us so it’s important that everyone participates. I hope you will help me in my efforts to encourage organizations like yours to participate in the census so Los Angeles gets its fair share of funding.
Respectfully,
(YOUR NAME)
