Families: Educate and Participate
It is critical that every single member of the family be counted in the census because California stands to lose $11,400 in federal funding over the next 10 years for every person not counted in California.

Here are the facts:
It's easy. It's important. It's confidential. No one can see your census information except for the census bureau - it cannot be shared with anyone else, including law enforcement or other agencies. Access a sample form so you know what to look for in the mail.
Children are most undercounted. Children under age 5 are undercounted in the census more than any other age group. The census counts all children, regardless of age, and includes foster children and other dependents.
What you can do:
- Contact any of these local nonprofits to ask for help with the census form
- Educate yourself about the census. Download a toolkit for parents and educators.
- Educate your children about the importance of the census and participate with them
- Ask your children's school about what they are doing to promote census participation
- Ask your neighborhood council and/or homeowners' association about what they are doing to promote the census
- Talk to your families, friends and neighbors about the importance of census participation
