The California Community Foundation's Southern California Wildfire Relief Fund supports intermediate and long-term recovery efforts for major wildfires, as well as preparedness efforts. We focus on nonprofits serving low-income residents in L.A. County.
Through the generosity of donors and Los Angeles residents, CCF has been able to respond quickly and effectively when disaster strikes. For more than 20 years, CCF has supported domestic and international emergency relief efforts. Since the Southern California Wildfire Relief Fund opened in 2003, we have raised $3.5 million altogether to support relief and recovery efforts in the aftermath of devastating wildfires in Southern California.
In Fall 2008, CCF granted more than $150,000 to victims of the Sylmar and Sayre wildfires to nonprofits to support those who were displaced or lost housing, belongings and/or employment, or suffered physical or mental health problems. In previous wildfires in 2003 and 2007, we gave grants that helped to rebuild homes; provide case management services, basic needs assistance, mental health services and financial assistance; upgrade 2-1-1 phone and information system; assist burn victims with follow-up medical care and supplies; provide respiratory equipment and information to people with lung disease; educate homeowners about green rebuilding; and provide disaster preparedness information.
