California Community Foundation Responds to Wildfires
-Accepts donations to the Southern California Wildfire Relief Fund
Metropolitan Los Angeles and San Diego are currently surrounded by a ring of fire. From Malibu, Valencia and Lake Arrowhead to Foothill Ranch, Rancho Bernardo and Poway, we have witnessed the mass evacuation of nearly a million people and the destruction of thousands of residences. While the loss of life has been mercifully low in these fires thus far, the impact will nonetheless be felt by thousands of families.
When disaster strikes our region, the California Community Foundation’s role is to raise public awareness of the needs related to the emergency and to fund recovery efforts. Donors may contribute to the Southern California Wildfire Relief Fund administered by the foundation to support intermediate and long term recovery efforts with a particular focus on needy populations and nonprofits serving the affected areas. The foundation will match the first $250,000 in contributions to the Southern California Wildfire Relief Fund and waive administrative fees to ensure all donations will be used for relief activities.

The Southern California Wildfire Relief Fund was established in 2003 and raised $1 million at the time to support recovery efforts in the aftermath of the 2003 wildfires. The foundation also administered $1 million in grants through a separate fund created by the Allstate Foundation.
CCF has also partnered with regional grantmakers in other counties affected by the fires, and with their assistance, will identify organizations and programs serving the needs of fire victims.
The San Diego Foundation created the After-the-Fires Fund to address recovery in the San Diego area. For more information, click here.
