The purpose of the arts program is to strengthen individual artists and small-to-midsize arts and cultural organizations as part of a vibrant cultural community.
The human development program aims to expand support services for special populations that enable them to acquire the resources and skills that will lead to self-sufficiency. Special populations include aging adults, developmentally and/or physically disabled children and adults, at-risk youth and foster youth.
Goals:
- Increase the participation of diverse, ethnic and low-income individuals and communities in the arts
- Increase opportunities that promote independent living and community participation for vulnerable individuals
Objectives:
- Expand the capacity of small- to-midsize arts and cultural organizations and direct service agencies that improve the quality of life in Los Angeles County.
- Expand support services that enable vulnerable people to get the resources and develop the life skills needed to successfully make the transition to adulthood or become and remain independent adults.
- Invest in grassroots, networking and advocacy organizations that increase community awareness of and support for issues related to the arts, aging adults, developmentally and/or physically disabled children and adults, at-risk youth and foster youth.
- Increase the sustainability and success of emerging and mid-career artists by providing individual fellowships that recognize artistic merit.
Priorities:
- Small-to-midsize community-based arts organizations, theater companies and cultural institutions with operating budgets no larger than $2 million.
- Efforts that increase the representation and participation of people of color, immigrants and low-income individuals and communities in the arts.
- Support services for aging adults, developmentally and/or physically disabled children and adults, at-risk youth and foster youth.
- Efforts that promote civic dialogue and advocate for critical issues affecting the arts, aging adults, developmentally and/or physically disabled children and adults, at-risk youth and foster youth
