We are committed to helping underserved communities and strengthening the nonprofit sector in L. A. County through our competitive grantmaking and other support.
In 2009, the foundation awarded $191 million in grants to nonprofit organizations in Los Angeles County, across the country and worldwide. Of this amount, 76 percent were donor advised grants. Competitive grants represented 9 percent of this amount, totaling more than $17 million. The remaining awards were from scholarships, private foundation alternative funds, and special initiatives. Competitive Grants
Competitive grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations that seek to meet an identified community need and that match the foundation’s funding priorities. The bulk of competitive grants are awarded through the foundation’s grantmaking in its five priority areas: arts, education, health care, human development and housing and neighborhoods.
We encourage you to visit our How to Apply page often as other funding opportunities may arise.
Other Types of Funding Support
In addition, we provide funding support in three major ways: donor advised grants, program related investments and special initiative and civic engagement grants.
Individuals, families and organizations with CCF donor funds determine the goals and objectives of the grants from their funds.
The foundation makes program related investments (PRIs) in the form of low-interest loans and loan guarantees to Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) and intermediary lenders that serve nonprofit finance needs related to the foundation’s programmatic priorities.
Special initiative grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations whose proposed projects match the specific objectives and outcomes for each initiative.
